Well, what did you expect? Every year, especially here in Buffalo, July 1st NHL free agency gets over hyped and Yet, very little ever happens. I OK with that. I seen so many teams throw stupid money at free agents, only to regret the move the next year. It means absolutely nothing to on July 1st. The Sabres don play that game. The reality is, they are a team that doesn use their money to make big splashes. Signing Jordan Leopold is right about their speed. He a solid, mid level veteran who will fill in for the departures of Henrik Tallinder and Toni Lydman. The key here is that its time for the Sabres to see if their high draft choices and top defensive prospects are ready. Mike Weber, Marc Andre Gragnani, Chris Butler and Andrej Sekera all appear to have talent. They need a chance to shine. When you a small market, limited resource team, you rely on those young players to provide inexpensive talent and reduce your salary cap stress. Did you really want to bring Tallinder back until he 35 at over $3 mill a season? Lydman until he 35? They are solid players. Nothing more. If it wasn your price, let them go. Leopold is basically Tallinder withbetter offensive skills. He younger, too. Don get all worked up about losing those guys, and not seeing any big names come in. That not how it works here. There has been success here, which means that formula can work. Do I want to see the Sabres do more and be agressive? Yes. Trade Tim Connolly now. Go get a top flight player, even if he in the last year of his deal. But be smart about it. Sabres fans were hoping that the rumors and speculation were true, and that the team would trade for rugged forward Nathan Horton. It didn happen, because the Bruins beat them to it. They acquired the Welland native from the Panthers for D Dennis Wideman and the 15th pick in the first round of the draft. Horton would have been the perfect player to change the Sabres approach. He a physical, big body winger who had 20 goals in every season he played. We don know how close the Sabres came to making a deal, but I understand why Florida made the trade with Boston. While Wideman is a good solid defenseman, I suspect getting the 15th overall pick was the real lure. Boston could give it up because they also have the second pick, thanks to the Phil Kessel trade with Toronto. So where do the Sabres turn now? Will they make a deal at the draft? I would love to see them get agressive, and maybe trade one of their good players for another team good player. Or make an unusual Buffalo trade: pick up a high priced (or overpaid) player near the end of his deal that some other team wants to get rid of. Getting a star player, even if he in the final year of his contract, would upgrade the Sabres and make them better. I know everybody wants to see Connolly gone, but I wonder how much of a market there is for him? Let hope its an interesting few days leading up to the draft. Free agency doesn bring us much, so let see if Trader Darcy can make something happen. News came Monday from the NFL Network that the Seahawks are interested in trading for Marshawn Lynch. While they may be interested, are the Bills interested in trading Lynch? It seems no. The report says Buffalo turned down a 4th round pick during the draft. I suspect there are a few reason why the Bills would not consider trading Lynch, despite his absence from volutary workouts and ever growing bad reputation in WNY. 1. He under contract and cheap, making around $800, 000 dollars this year. 2. He doesn have much trade value. Coming off a suspension plagued and ineffective year, Lynch did not equal the production of his first two seasons. The Bills may be unwilling to give away a former first round pickk. 3. He in the plans for 2010. Consider this. With the QB position unsettled, the Bills will have to run the ball to succeed. Chan Gailey knows this. The plan may be to have Lynch get the bulk of the carries, especially on first and second down, goalline and short yardage. Spiller would be change up, third down, slot receiving type. Fred Jackson would be the backup, third down pass protector. I have gotten the sense that the new staff may not value Fred Jackson as an every down, 1 back as much as Bills fans appreciate the former free agent. Lynch has more talent, and has proven in his first two years to be a very good back. Keeping him may be a good football decision. 4. When you don have a lot of good, talented players, you don just get rid of the ones you have. It would be wise for Lynch to show up, play with a chip on his shoulder, increase his trade value, and get the Bills a good return in 2011. By then, Spiller may be ready to take over. I don think this current Lynch situation is the same as the Jason Peters one two years ago. Peters had a lot of value. Lynch does not. I don think Lynch NEEDS to go. Based on the fact that he still here, maybe the Bills agree. I will admit that I am not the biggest soccer fan. But I also understand that there are many soccer players and fans in WNY, and the World Cup is your Super Bowl. But what I curious about is the same question asked of Americans every four years: Do we care? I know the world cares, and that fine. But its OK that they go nuts over this and mostly, we don Sometimes I feel guilty during the World Cup, when I constantly being told that I should care because the World cares. But should I? Do I have to? I appreciate the ability and the athleticism of the players, but I just can get into the game action. I know there great strategy and skill, but it moves a little slow for me. What I really want to know from you is should we care? How do we learn to appreciate the game, especially for those who never seriously played soccer? Do Buffalo fans care? How much should we show highlights other than the USA games? I need some feedback, and I don mind if its soccer fans telling me I making a mistake. The Chargers made a few roster moves this week that might have had Bills fans wondering. They signed Josh Reed, who was not re signed by Buffalo when he became a free agent in March. With the current state of the Bills receiving corp, fans may be wondering why the Bills didn bring him back. The answer to that is the same reason why the Chargers would sign him. Reed is limited, and can really only be effective as a slot receiver running short routes across the middle. His lack of deep speed was always a factor in the role he played witht the Bills. Yes, his veteran smarts might have helped a young Bills corp. But that young corp needs chances to grow and perform. Spiller and Roscoe Parrish as slot receivers. The Chargers interest comes from a lack of veteran wideouts while Vincent Jackson stays away as a restricted free agent. Also, some injuries at the receiver spot left SD looking for bodies. Reed may have a hard time making the team once Jackson and the injured wideouts return. San Diego also signed 36 year old left tackle Tra Thomas. Fans may have wondered why Buffalo wouldn pursue him to fill their glaring hole at the position. I suspect that Thomas really can play fulltime anymore. The Chargers starter is Marcus McNeil, also staying away in a contract dispute. Smith probably expects McNeil back for the season, so he has no plans on using Thomas for anything more than a backup role. It also tells me that the Bills may not be looking for a quick fix, stop gap at left tackle. They want to develop Demetrius Bell, or at least find out if he can be a solid starter. Signing an aging veteran doesn allow that to happen. If Bell does not return from his knee injury and perform well in training camp, then you could see Buddy Nix make a move on a vet like Flozell Adams. For now, the youth movement rules as the Bills try to rebuild. The Chargers are in a win now mode, and that why they signed the two veterans. Appearing on a radio station in San Diego, Trent Edwards fired back at some comments made by Jim Kelly. I glad to see it. I have a lot more respect for Trent because he did not back down, even if Kelly is a God in WNY. Before the draft, Kelly had said the Bills needed a new quarterback and he hoped they didn draft another one from California. "It is definitely frustrating because I don't know how much time Jim has spent in California. I love the state of California. Obviously, I am pretty biased towards where I grew up in, but it is a little bit nave that he makes comments like that. It is frustrating because I feel like there are a ton of great quarterbacks out there that have played in the league for an extended amount of time. I mean we can go down the list right now. He unfortunately said some things that aren't always the best things to say but I guess that is kind of the way that he is." Ouch. Way to go Trent. I want my quarterback standing up for himself. I think there a perception about Edwards being a nice, humble guy but not very tough. This shows some toughness. Firing a shot at the Hall of Famer is sure tough. I hope this signals a new attitude for Trent. His NFL career is on the line this season. He better be able to beat out Fitzpatrick and Brohm. He the one with the NFL track record, that includes some success. In some small way, maybe this signals a new, more daring Trent Edwards. I hope so. That should be good news for the Bills. As you settle in to watch the NHL Conference Finals, there are some reasons to root for certain teams. Sabres fans looking for some Buffalo connection will find plenty on the Sharks, Blackhawks, Flyers and Canadiens. Patrick Kane: Many WNYers have adopted the Hawks as their favorite team because of South Buffalo favorite son. He is a genuine NHL star, and he has played welll in these playoffs. Kane has 7 goals and 9 assists. He has a chance to be the latest native to bring home the Cup, joining Kevyn Adams, Todd Marchant and Brooks Orpik. Either do it yourself with a mirror or have someone inspect them for you. Keep an eye out not just for open sores and cuts, but also other foot problems such as redness, swelling or calluses. A diabetic foot ulcer usually starts with a callus. A callus is the skin's response to excessive pressure on the foot, and an ulcer usually develops underneath it. If you find a foot ulcer, visit your doctor as soon as you can to have him clean the wound and check for infection. If you have a callus, consult with your doctor or podiatrist about how you can reduce pressure on that area of your foot. Always wear comfortable closed shoes. Adjustable shoes are thus essential to your foot health. In addition, try to wear seamless, sweat wicking athletic socks. If your feet are too sweaty, they will blister more easily. Air Jordan 4 Oreo 2015 The ongoing debate among Formula one teams over whether to run kinetic energy recovery systems (KERS) continues as those teams head to the streets of Monaco this weekend. While as many as eight cars have used the new hybrid systems at races earlier this year, only four are expected to use it this week. Only the cars of Ferrari and McLaren have committed to running KERS in Monaco. The KERS system adds weight to the car but Ferrari says its F60 was designed and weight balanced around the system so removing it would yield little benefit. The tight Monaco course makes passing extremely difficult and qualifying well critical. It's possible that running KERS will allow Ferrari to get some advantage when not running in traffic for qualifying. Because the current rules limit how much KERS boost can be used per lap, the extra acceleration doesn't help much at a track like Monaco. Other teams are more skeptical about the KERS benefits at Monaco and have opted not to install the system. [Source: Ferrari, F1 Live] Raikkonen: "KERS also at Monaco"Maranello, 19th May 2009 It's always a very special week, the one of the Monaco GP. The F60 improved a lot at Barcelona and now a place on the podium is no longer a mirage. It will be very important to see how things go during the free practice session to see if we made up some ground also on this track, like it happened in Spain. Last year we were able to place both cars in the first row and it would be a dream to repeat that. In theory this year's rules slowed the cars down in the fast corners, but due to the slicks we're faster in the slow ones. To be ahead in this race you have to be absolutely perfect. We drivers know that you can't loose your concentration not even for a second: the blink of an eye is enough and you end up in the wall. If they can recover close to 100% of their kinetic energy they should be able to use it all. Of course allowing drivers full control over the boost would allow the leader to store up extra juice over a number of laps to make sure he had enough boost to fend off challengers. The 2nd or 3rd guy could also store up extra boost over a number of laps in order to use it to overtake.
