1 Our last stop, one of state natives most favorite camping and hiking areas, is Clark Creek Hollow (also known as the "Lost Valley") in the Ponca Township area of the Buffalo National River Park. With a waterfall, natural bridge, clear creeks and plenty of hiking trails, it easy to see why campers list Lost Valley as their No. 1 campsite. Other favorite camping areas along the Buffalo River include Buffalo Point and Gilbert. Camping rates were not available online, so contact the local park rangers to find out if rates apply.
9 Moving slightly northeast, we find Catherine Landing in southeast Hot Springs. Here is one of the few sites where one can find some middle ground between relaxing and roughing it with climate controlled "yurts" available for rent. A hybrid between a cabin and a tent, the yurt provides comfort while still providing that feeling of being one with nature. Catherine Landing also provides RVC resort cottages and RV sites. Water front campsites start at $35 per day ($189 weekly) and 4 person yurts start at $55 per day ($249 weekly).
8 Let go further west into the heart of the Ouachita National Forest. Campers can find several sites for hiking, primitive and non primitive camping, swimming and sight seeing. Some favorite locations include Charlton Recreation Area, Winona Refuge, the Blakely Mountain Trail and Haw Creek Falls. Not to mention, there are many sites immediately surrounding Lake Ouachita. Pictured above is the star attraction of a remote campground, Haw Creek Falls, located in the Perry Township. Camping rates run about $10 per day on average. A favorite area for camping and exploration is Blanchard Springs near Fiftysix (Yes, there a town in Arkansas called Fiftysix). Campers can swim in the springs, hike and explore living caves, and fish from peaceful ponds. Pictured above is Gunner Pool, which also made our top 10 "swimming holes" list, which lies between the Blanchard Springs and Barkshed campsites. Camping rates start at $10 per day.
While camping is usually permitted year round in Arkansas, many people only find time for one or two trips a year. Given the brutally hot summers and unpredictable winters, spring and fall are usually the preferred camping seasons for locals. Aside from the cooler temperatures, fall is a special season for Arkansans because of the red and golden hues of turning leaves. This is why many once a year campers wait until the autumn months for their annual camping trip. Luckily, Arkansas has plenty of state and national parks. Whether you prefer enjoying the scenery from a comfy cabin, kayaking along a river, hiking and biking through natural trails or camping in lush forests, this state has something for every outdoorsman. With so many options, you may have trouble deciding where to go. Don worry; we have put together a gallery of the top 10 campsites (and camping areas) of Arkansas, as provided by our outdoorsy readers and the Arkansas Department of Parks and Recreation. So air out your tents, get your fishing and camping supplies together, and start exploring! (Several photos for this feature were submitted or taken by the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism)
6 Two smaller (but certainly not less scenic) state parks to the east of Mt. Magazine are Mt. Nebo and Petit Jean State Parks. Mt. Nebo is located in Dardenelle and overlooks the Arkansas River Valley. The park offers 34 campsites, 10 of which are hike in, as well as cozy cabins like pictured above. Like Mt. Magazine, visitors can enjoy hang gliding and mountain biking, plus hike the 14 miles of trails surrounding the mountain. The park also has tennis courts, a swimming pool, pavilions and playgrounds. Regular camping rates start at $10 per day.
7 You seen pictures like this on the "Natural State" commercials and wonder, "OK, where is THAT?" North of the Ouachitas rests Mt. Magazine State Park. Options run from primitive camping to luxurious cabins and lodges. Camping is available within the state park and in the surrounding area, including Cove Lake and Blue Mountain Lake. An outdoors man dream, activities include anything from rock climbing and rappelling to horseback riding and and mountain biking. Camping rates start at $25 per day.
3 Directly east of Devil Den, on the other side of I 540, one can experience the famous Ozark National Forest. Along the Big Piney River, a popular campground is Long Pool. Located about 12 miles north of Dover, there are 41 campsites available. Campers can swim, kayak and fish, but the serenity is the main draw to this site. The nearby Moccasin Gap Horse Trail provides foot, horse, dirt and mountain bike, and ATV trails for more adventuresome activities. Rates at Long Pool start at $7 per day, and $3 per day at the Moccasin site.
In this Aug. 16, 2011 photo, Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander throws a warm up pitch against the Minnesota Twins during a baseball game in Detroit. Verlander is now in line to win pitching Triple Crown, leading the American League in wins, strikeouts and ERA. And those aren the only numbers he proud of. We often miss our family dinner because we work late, the kids are playing games or we are tired from daily activities. But, skipping family dinner can be harmful to your family.
Family dinner is not just another meal. Usually, it is the only time that families spend together through the week. Whether you sit down to the dinner table or enjoy a meal on tray tables and a movie in the family room, the essential thing is that you are together.
Some interesting facts surround family dinner time. For example, teenagers that eat dinner with their family are less expected to get mixed up in drugs, alcohol or other unlawful activity. This is one thing most parents will find remarkable. Out of all the things you do in trying to keep your kids away from bad influences, the one thing that has the greatest power is still the occasion that we skip regularly.
Why is family dinner so vital? For one thing, it is a time to share your views and feelings. The whole day, your children are influenced by teachers, friends and the outside world. At the dinner table, they get to connect with their parents on challenging issues like schoolwork, peer pressure, friendships and many other things. Each of them can share and help one another with valuable suggestions. Parents can even discuss about their work or the condition of family finances over a meal.
The main goal is that conversation is taking place. The average parent speaks to their kids less than 40 minutes per week. Saying "Hi!" when you come in at night may take a second, but that it is not effective communication. However, in a family dinner, at the very least you're spending around 45 minutes to an hour discussing just about everything and anything in your mind. Even while you are watching a TV program, engaging questions may come up from topics taken up in the program.
Young kids learn how to communicate through their siblings and parents. Usually, they are the center of attention with questions about their day and it makes them feel happy. You see kids always want attention when they are at a certain age and this helps them learn to share the limelight with others.
For teenage girls, body image is everything. Learning to cook and eat nourishing family dinner is an indication that eating the right food will keep their bodies in shape and not avoiding food. Of course, teen age girls are less likely to suffer from eating disorder, but it would be good to develop in them a healthy view of food and their bodies by having a set family dinner time.
There are lots of advantages to having a family dinner time. It is a moment for valuable communication that leads to stronger self worth that can refuse to give in to the urge of drugs, alcohol and other negative influences on your kids and teens. Last Shot 14s,I know so many moms who like the idea of candy less Valentines, and here is a great way to avoid the sugar: Rainbow looms. They are all the rage these days. If you not familiar with rainbow looms, it a crafty loom to make bracelets, rings, headbands name it, out of small colorful elastics.
They really popular with kids from the ages of 6 to 13 ages really. My daughter got one for Christmas and she has been nonstop since she got it. We all have the arm candy to prove it. Loomin in the morning, loomin in the evening, loomin all the live long day.
With Valentine Day just around the corner, I been keeping an eye out for affordable Valentine ideas for my family. I found lots of darling (and free!) printables that kids can take to school to give with their rainbow loom bracelets as a little Valentine gift.
