You start doing the math and realizing that you are half of seventy, but not quite at mid life. For me, I started looking at my Grandmother, Olive Fern Humphreys. I realized that for most of her life Gram, as we grandkids affectionately called her, had never exercised, and that she did indeed enjoy all things sugar. I could relate. Being naturally thin, there really seemed no logical reason to spend hours sweating away while I could instead be eating my favorite treats. This was my thinking until the day she was diagnosed with dementia. This was the day that changed all my days. The day that turned me to running. Research shows that even mild exercise helps to counter dementia, and that is exactly what I intended to do counter the monster that scares me most, dementia. It robs recent memories, makes faces turn to clouds and sends laugher away. According to the Alzheimer Disease Facts and Figures in 2010, 5.3 million people have a form of dementia. November is National Alzheimer Disease Awareness Month, and so, this month, I take a look back over the past two plus years and recallmy new dedication to saving my health by lacing up my shoes. The following entries are my personal account of finding my strength, while losing my Gram, who after a challenging battle with dementia, became my Angel. Saturday, March 29, 2008: started out slowly, very slowly, and am sure the cars passing me thought I was walking. After only a half a mile I wanted to quit. I should have bought some new shoes, the kind made just for running. My hips ached and my heels hurt. I cant believe people actually like running. I slowed down even more until my body hardly moved. I got home forty minutes later and collapsed on the couch glad that this first attempt at running is over. May 10, 2008: was my first 5K, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Salt Lake City. I had been training for this day for weeks, and knew that it would be a hard run. My lungs burned. My heart was on fire. My feet felt so heavy. Regardless, I was overcome with emotion as I ran, and could feel my body laughing like a kid at Christmas. September 30, 2008: am scared. I want to visit her, but I am scared. Scared that she will forget me. Scared that she will not know my name. Scared that she will ask where Grandpa is and I will not be able to hold back my tears that somehow creep in each time I think of him. Scared that those memories will be replaced by questions, asked over and over again. Of someone who is unsure where they are and who surrounds them. Someday will find you in a sweeter place, Gram. wonder sometimes after all of these years of living with a different kind of pain, after surviving cancer, and working so hard for her family, that she was challenged with one of the most difficult conditions for both family and self, that of dementia. November 30, 2008: is the last night my Grandma will be in her own home. We are moving her to an assisted care facility that specializes in dementia. The shadows in her head are just ghosts of her memories. I can see her wanting to remember, trying to understand, and then just somehow not. When my sisters Jeannie and Tami and I left her house on Thanksgiving after a short visit, I only wanted one thing and that was for her to say my name. But it didn happen. It took a lot for me to not cry. I was so glad to take this one last visit on Thanksgiving Day with my two sisters, whom I love larger than life. dementia is not my friend. I miss my Gram. Saturday, April 4, 2009: I ran nine miles. In the cold. I layer up first with my two favorite running jackets, and then my Nike pants that do not even let me feel the cold. I clip my iPod on, strap my GPS watch around my wrist, pull my beanie down tight, put on my gloves, tie my shoes, grab a water bottle, and hit the road. Some mornings, I have to be honest; I just really would rather not be a runner. However, I set a goal, and a goal is what I intend to reach. I have six more weeks of training until the half marathon, and then all of this hard work will pay off. I don care about speed. I only want to cross the finish line without crying, tripping, or throwing up. May 4, 2009: year ago in an effort to thwart the possibility of one day having dementia I decided to start exercising in the form of running. At the time, I could not even run a half mile before I had to stop and now one year later I am nearly ready for my ultimate goal of running a half marathon. It has been a lonely process, filled mostly with the thoughts in my head, my music, shoes that I love, and lots and lots of footsteps most of them being in the rain or freezing cold. Sometimes I think we don know what we are capable of accomplishing. I am not athletic. Somehow though, I find myself on these long training runs, just me and my legs, and I feel great. I push that last few meters usually in the quiet of the early morning all by myself and then, just like a crowd of people are cheering for me as I cross the line I pump my fists in the air and finish like a champ. May 13 2009: engine is shutting down. There is no sound. The tracks don bend. This old train is breaking down. I don want to let her go. So I keep on rolling. But this old train breaking down. I need this old train. She can stop now. Breakdown. can stop nothing if you got no control, Jack Johnson says. No more control. No more connecting. Breakdown. Let go. Breakdown. Let go. Breakdown. Let go. May 15, 2009: doesn know that it was her time to go. That her mind was in pain. That she could not take another breath. Sad just knows how much I will miss her. How much I love her. May 16, 2009: in the earliest hours of the morning, armed with a sharpie tattoo Running for Grandma I ran 13.1 miles in the Ogden Utah Half Marathon. One of the greatest days of my life. I dont think the morning rays have ever been so peaceful, or my feet ever so light. I cant remember a time when I was filled with so much hope or love for complete strangers. When one of these strangers saw the writing on my arm he yelled, GRANDMA?? I told him that just two days ago my Gram had passed away from dementia and that I was not sure I could run this half marathon that I had been training for so many months for. He shouted back encouragement and raised his hands in the air shouting to the other runners, SHES RUNNING FOR GRAM!!! It is true. Very few days will ever compare to this day. May 13, 2010: year ago to this day I stopped by to see my sweet Gram who was falling fast from this life, and I chose to work, laptop open, instead of hold her hand and sitting by her side. I think at the time I thought that there would be another chance. There is always another chance. So I worked. There is a part of me that does not like change, and on this day, one year ago I saw my Gram change. No longer was there any bit of a smile. No longer was there any animation. There were just the last bits of life hanging on with a sense of the end. Still, I worked on. I stayed with her until she went to bed. Saw the sweet nurses tuck her in, and tell her that they loved her. I saw them kiss her forehead and tell her to sleep. It was so easy for them. So, so easy. When they left I had the opportunity to reach down and hold my Gram warm hand and tell her how much I loved her, right before she fell asleep. But I couldn do it. I shut down my laptop, and said Gram and took my things and drove back home. night I thought about her a year ago, and made the resolution to stop by first thing in the morning and make it right. I drove straight to the care facility, and quickly got out and made my way upstairs to her room. It was breakfast time, so if she wasn in her room, she would be eating with the group. I passed a young nurse getting off the elevator, she smiled at me. It was a perfect day, the sun was just starting to come out and the morning was calm. I found Gram room and put my fingers around the knob to open the door. But it was locked. I do have an angel. She was there with me at that moment. The moment I knew that I was too late. The nurse who answered the door to my Gram room said that I had just missed her slipping off to heaven and that I would need to wait out in the hallway for my family to arrive. I wonder if I have ever cried so hard, as I sunk to the floor, hugged my knees, and felt sorrow so deep that it bruised my heart. For several minutes it was just me, the hallway, and a box of Kleenex. I missed her so bad. I still do. I miss her on nice days like today, when the sun is just coming up. She always liked a sunny day. Thursday, November 11, 2010: hour before the morning light first appeared and while the stars were fading, I laced up my new shoes and went for a run. The air was cold, and my face felt the burn of wind signalling winter close at hand. My ears heard the repetitive sound of my feet hitting the road, but my mind was still, only thinking of my Grandma. today I say to my Gram, am so sorry I did not stay. I know that you never liked to be alone. So sorry. I love you and miss you and I will always remember you. I still honk at your house when I drive by; I still can pour a bowl of Lucky Charms without thinking of you I still am grateful so often for the memories of sleepovers and getting tucked in to the hide a bed with the red afghan. in heaven there is a spring day. There are new tomato plants, and tiny buds on peach trees, there are bright tulips and brilliant new green grass. There are sunsets that would take your breath away, and sunrises to live for. And somewhere there is my angel Gram, waiting to cheer me on in the next big race..

Sales for the quarter were $1.7 billion, a decrease of 12 percent compared with 2011. Currency lowered sales by $120 million. Softening North America demand across the company's significant commercial vehicle customers and continued weakness in South America further impacted year to year sales comparisons by approximately $95 million. The company recorded third quarter net income of $56 million. This compares with $110 million for the same period in 2011, which included a $60 million gain from the sale of certain equity affiliate investments. Year to date net income was $212 million, compared with $148 million for the same period last year. Net income for 2011 also included a $53 million charge for the extinguishment of debt related to refinancing activities completed early that year. The company reported adjusted EBITDA of $190 million in the quarter, or 11 percent of sales, compared with 10.2 percent for the same period in 2011. Diluted adjusted earnings per share (EPS) were $0.37, compared with $0.45 in the third quarter of 2011. In addition to lower earnings in the current quarter, 2012 EPS was also impacted by higher tax expense reflecting jurisdictional mix. Free cash flow for the quarter was $88 million, compared with $50 million for the same period last year. With liquidity of $1.4 billion and net cash of $68 million at Sept. 30, 2012, Dana continues to have a strong financial position. "We are pleased to report solid financial results for the third quarter, despite choppy demand patterns and rapid softening in certain of our end markets, notably North America Class 8 commercial vehicle production," said Roger J. Wood, Dana president and chief executive officer. "Dana has continued to respond quickly to changing market conditions with disciplined cost and investment actions, generating positive cash flow and improving adjusted EBITDA margin over this time last year. Sales for the first nine months of the year were $5.6 billion, $34 million lower than 2011. Adjusted EBITDA for the first three quarters was $627 million, or 11.1 percent of sales, representing a 90 basis point improvement over margin performance a year ago. pension plans contribution in the first quarter, $99 million higher than 2011. Retained manufacturing activities from the 2010 sale of Dana's Structural Products business completed final operations in the third quarter of 2012. Accordingly, for financial reporting purposes, the results of operations relating to the Structural Products business have been reclassified within previously reported consolidated results of operations as a discontinued operation. Adjusted EBITDA and associated margin as a percent of sales are inclusive of sales and adjusted EBITDA of the Structural Products business. New Technologies IntroducedDuring the third quarter, Dana introduced several new technologies, including: Spicer Model 300 axles featuring AdvanTEK gearing. This axle is the largest yet in the series of axles for Class 1 through 5 vehicles and extends the premium benefits of these axles for use in the light commercial vehicle market, including heavy duty pickups. Tire pressure management technology for line haul tractors. This is the first internal axle system of its kind to automatically maintain optimum inflation for drive and steer axles, significantly increasing vehicle fuel efficiency and tire life, while reducing maintenance. Dana will be the first in the market to offer fully integrated, electronically controlled systems specifically engineered for the more complex demands of tractor units. Efficient, robust Spicer Diamond Series driveshaft technology optimized for use on light commercial vehicles such as pick up trucks. Using Dana's proprietary hydroforming manufacturing process, the driveshaft is shaped to have an expanded center. This allows it to run at higher speeds while offering increased strength and up to a 5 percent reduction in weight over straight aluminum tube driveshaft designs. The Spicer Diamond Series driveshaft was recognized earlier this month as a finalist for the 2013 Automotive News PACE Awards. Dana revised its guidance for full year sales, adjusted EDITDA, and diluted adjusted EPS largely reflecting further expected reductions in commercial vehicle production in North America as well as softening construction demand in Europe. Adjusted EBITDA as a percent of sales remains unchanged, while free cash flow andcapital spending targets have also been revised. Current guidance for the full year is as follows: Sales are projected at $7.2 billion to $7.3 billion, compared with previous guidance of $7.5 billion to $7.6 billion; Adjusted EBITDA is projected to be $780 million to $800 million, compared with previous guidance of $820 million to $840 million; Adjusted EBITDA as a percent of sales is forecast to be approximately 11 percent, consistent with previous guidance; Diluted adjusted EPS is expected to total $1.75 to $1.82 per share, compared with previous guidance of total $1.94 to $2.01 per share; Free cash flow for the year is projected at $240 million to $260 million, excluding the special one time $150 million pension contribution; and Capital spending is expected to total $160 million to $170 million, compared with previous guidance of $210 million to $230 million. The most significant impact on Dana's ongoing results of operations as a result of applying fresh start accounting following our emergence from bankruptcy was higher depreciation and amortization. By using adjusted EBITDA, a performance measure that excludes depreciation and amortization, the comparability of results is enhanced. Management also believes that adjusted EBITDA is an important measure since the financial covenants in our debt agreements are based, in part, on adjusted EBITDA. Adjusted EBITDA should not be considered a substitute for income (loss) before income taxes, net income (loss) or other results reported in accordance with GAAP. Adjusted EBITDA may not be comparable to similarly titled measures reported by other companies. Diluted adjusted EPS is a non GAAP financial measure that we have defined as adjusted net income divided by adjusted diluted shares. We define adjusted net income as net income (loss) attributable to the parent company, excluding restructuring expense, amortization expense and nonrecurring items (as used in adjusted EBITDA), net of any associated income tax effects. We define adjusted diluted shares as diluted shares as determined in accordance with GAAP based on adjusted net income. This measure is considered useful for purposes of providing investors, analysts, and other interested parties with an indicator of ongoing financial performance that provides enhanced comparability to EPS reported by other companies. Diluted adjusted EPS is neither intended to represent nor be an alternative measure to diluted EPS reported under GAAP. Free cash flow is a non GAAP financial measure that we have defined as cash provided by (used in) operating activities, excluding any bankruptcy claim related payments, less purchases of property, plant, and equipment. We believe this measure is useful to investors in evaluating the operational cash flow of the company inclusive of the spending required to maintain the operations. Free cash flow is neither intended to represent nor be an alternative to the measure of net cash provided by (used in) operating activities reported under GAAP. Free cash flow may not be comparable to similarly titled measures reported by other companies. The reason for such is they may either never tried golf or never considered that etiquettes do preside over this gentleman's game. Do you belong in one category, or both? So stop being someone else's eyesore whenever a round of golf is decided by reading over this golf lessons. Who's to say, it may save your face, your job, or your prospects in the long (or short) run. Golf is a game of elegance or it won't be called a gentleman's sport. There are strict regulations on some clubs to wear a certain outfit but for some public golf courses, this regulation may be a bit slack. Still, golf should be participated in a proper decorum. As golf become more and more a platform on which professionals intermingle and negotiate the quality of one's dress can often be regarded the expression of an individual's success. Each player's Addresses are treated as sacred. That means all players stay away and stay put. Nothing can be more exasperating when somebody acts like a buffoon: standing in front and observing somebody swing; standing behind and take the risk of getting whacked by a Seven Iron or even standing near enough to be in somebody else's corner of the eye. Another man's presence is the ultimate distraction for players getting ready on Address. What you should do is stand way back about 5 yards and make no noise. Utterly silent that he'll forget you were there. Trust me, he won't though. Golf Lesson 3: Do your share and shout "Fore!" Be responsible of your shots. Suffice to say: take care of your ball. Do watch the entire flight of the ball and take note where it landed. Nothing can be more frustrating than an hour spent searching for your ball, especially if your "boss" also conducts the search for you. Does this happen? Yes it does and quite surprisingly it often happens to those novice players occupied with their cool histrionics that they ultimately missed to remember where the ball landed. And yeah, do your share and shout "Fore!" Golf Lesson 4: Etiquette marks Sportsmanship You'll be surprised how much etiquette can be observed in a sport. If you don't believe it, wait until you can have your first try of the game. A lot are to be observed. Even replacing divots is a considerable etiquette. And no, you just can't stamp them down; proper etiquette requires it to be gently tapped by your shoe, as if tucking a child to sleep. And even then there are other cultures specific to some golf clubs. A gentleman can really suck in a game big time and still exude such professionalism that he'd be a hot topic on the bar and grill anytime. Air Jordan 10 Retro White Old Royal Stealth If you have dry eyes, you will often feel like you have an eyelash stuck in your eye. Your eyes may burn, redden, and itch. Sometimes, your vision will blur. Dry eyes become more noticeable as you age because your tear glands naturally stop producing as much fluid. In fact, the average person produces 60 percent fewer tears at age 60 than at age 18. The condition, however, is most common in postmenopausal women and may be related to hormonal changes. Rheumatoid arthritis and lupus can also cause dry eyes by inflaming those same glands. Here are a few suggestions that can help you to minimize its effects. When you read or work at a computer, you often forget to blink, which keeps the fluid that you do have from getting spread out over your eyes. You can't consciously remember to blink. You will drive yourself nuts. But you can take a break every 10 minutes or so. That way, you will naturally resort to your normal blink rate. Guzzling down glass after glass of water won't solve your problems entirely. But it can air you in your quest to keep your eyes moist. Aim for eight 8 ounce glasses each day. Pollen, pollution, smoke, and other airborne particles won't necessarily dry out your eyes. But they can make already dry eyes feel uncomfortable and red. So sit in the nonsmoking section at restaurants, run a filtered air conditioner during the summer, and wear the kind of sunglasses that wrap around your eyes in windy, dusty areas. Sunglasses will also keep the bright light from the sun from irritating your sensitive eyes. Sold over the counter, artificial tears can provide the lubricant you need. You have your choice of dozens of products. All have their merits. But not all may be right for you. So choose those that are most comfortable to you. Dry winter heat, a hair dryer in your face, or your car's air conditioning vent all can suck the moisture from your eyes. So keep that blast of air pointed in a different direction. And use a humidifier during winter months. Such methods will keep you from robbing your eyes of their own moisture. Stay Away From Anti redness Drops Stay away from eyedrops that are designed to ease red, bloodspot eyes. They may make your eyes look better, but the ingredients in these drops can actually dry you out more than they help. Heat will stimulate your glands to produce more oil, which will keep your tears from evaporating as quickly. Fill a washbasin with hot tap water and immerse a washcloth. Apply the washcloth to your eyes for about 10 minutes twice a day.
